Open Question: drivers license cancel/not valid!?

Ok so this mornin on my way to work I got pulled over by a state trooper for not wearin a seat belt! The officer told me that my license is not valid/cancelled or suspended. How do I find out what's going on!? My license is from new mexico and I'm currently livin in kansas. I cannot change my DL to a kansas one cuz of my legal status!
